Idiot-Syncrasy VR is a Virtual Reality performance created by the collective Igor x Moreno as part of Springback Ringside, a project developed by the international dance network Aerowaves with the aim of recording dance performances in VR.
Choreographers Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas describe their original dance piece as a wish to change the world and the realization of the naivete of this wish.
Committing to this form of “idiocy” — an unsettling differentiation, hopeful agitation and collective determination occasionally sourced from folk traditions — the duo moved to the concept of “idiot-syncrasy”. With its transposition to the medium of VR it can be shared by small groups of spectators in remote and intimate environments. By transforming into this different life and rhythm, the dance piece responds to a contemporary demand for more sustainable and ethical touring and negotiates presence and absence, connection beyond distance, and variations of what we usually accept as “point of view”.
Idiot-Syncrasy was nominated for the National Dance Awards 2015 and the Total Theatre Awards 2015 and was selected for Aerowaves 2015 and for the British Council Showcase 2015.
Igor x Moreno is the name under which the works created by choreographers Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas (in collaboration with an extended group of artists) are presented. Igor x Moreno They use choreography and mostly non-verbal languages to create experiences which can surprise, energize and unsettle. Their works visit and escape different genres and styles. Their creative processes favor questions over answers, action over narration, communication over expression, alterity over diversity, patience over productivity. They don’t see entertainment as their duty, but as a useful communication tool. They work with rigor and playfulness. They value pointlessness.
The team – based across Europe – gathers in Sardinia, from where Igor x Moreno’s works have toured extensively across Europe as well as in North and South America, Africa and Asia. Awards and recognitions include the Rudolf Laban Award, as well as National Dance Awards and Total Theatre Awards nominations. Their works have been selected for Aerowaves (2011, 2013 and 2015), NID Platform, British Council Showcase and British Dance Edition. Moreno Solinas and Igor Urzelai are affiliate artists of The Place (London) and also part of the artistic direction of S’ALA in Sardinia.
