SUPER A

Goddess Athena was the daughter of Metis, the feminine symbol of cunning intelligence. She was born with a shrill scream through a foundational rupture in Zeus’s head, a rift in the dominion of male sovereignty. A new era thus began with Athena’s move to Africa and return to become in the eyes of mortals the presence of secrets and dialogue, a bridge between the natural and the civic.

The work SUPER A starts from the rupture signified — or silenced — by this myth and its perpetuation, and goes on to engage with the need to challenge, reformulate, and multiply the readings of myths and rituals in a way that keeps them alive and relevant to each epoch, its concerns and assertions.

A solo for the City.
For the Goddess.
For Disorder.

Athens as a field of conflict and fascination: a city of history, power and contradiction, in a permanent state of fluidity and deregulation, where past and present coexist.

Athena sprang fully armed from her father’s head, after he had first devoured her pregnant mother because he was afraid she would usurp his throne. She carries wisdom, strategy, and justice — but she lives in his shadow.

A female body becomes a carrier of historical, morphological and conceptual stakes. It moves at the limits of space and time, between discipline and defiance. Its movement claims, resists, insists. Movement becomes denial. Denial becomes rage. Rage becomes pleasure.

SUPER A claims disorder and disobedience as a feminist act. As a space where the female body is not explained, compromised, asking for permission. A space of brilliance, survival and political desire — gilded, fragmentary, alive.

The solo was originally created for the hybrid documentary Super Athens by American director Richard Ledes. Arc For Dance Festival 17 features the first expanded stage version of the work.
All performances of the festival are free.
Pre-booking is required.
