The contact between two bodies marks a passage, a form of bridging a rift. Its breach marks a rupture. Angelos Antonakos’s work renders visible and tactile the arduous instance in which a passage shifts to near-rift and vice versa.
Almost Waltz is a duet between two men who remain constantly connected at the neck, a vulnerable and exposed part of the body. The movement emerges from the need to maintain this contact and prevent it from coming apart, creating a continuous physical negotiation.
The work speaks about the inability to separate. About the moment when it is unclear whether you stay with someone because you want to or because you cannot leave. A moment that is fragile and full of contradictions, where desire and necessity become entangled.
Fatigue, breath, and instability reveal their shared effort to stick together, with “togetherness” presented primarily as a physical trial, but also as a state of liminal coexistence.
